R-2001- 138 A RESOLUTION ratifying application for a grant in the total amount of $107,494 from the US Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Administration, for funding the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program, and designating and authorizing the City Manager to act as the official representative of the City and to take such additional steps as may be necessary and prudent to complete transactions associated with the grant. WHEREAS, The U.S. Department of justice has funds available to the City of Yakima in the amount of $ 107,494 to reduce crime and improve public safety; and WHEREAS, The Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program contemplates an interlocal agreement with Yakima County, whereby Yakima County has agreed to accept $16,124 (less applicable matching funds) from the City's grant thus retaining $91,370 for the City's use; and WHEREAS, the City council of the City of Yakima held a public hearing and deems it to be in the best interest of the City that it enter into an agreement for funding for the prupose mentioned above; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section 1. The City Manager is designated as the official representative of the City for this grant and is authorized and directed to execute, on behalf of the City, acceptance of the grant Award, and to take such additional steps as may be necessary and prudent to complete all transactions associated with the grant, including but not limited to the above-mentioned transfer to Yakima County. SUBMITTED BY: Don Blesio, Chief of Police CONTACT PERSON/TELEPHONE: Mike Vowell, Police Lieutenant / 575-6181 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The city has been invited to apply for a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program. The purpose of the program is to reduce crime and improve public safety. The grant is requested in the amount of S 107,494. The attached resolution ratifies the grant application and authorizes the City Manger to act as the official representative to accept and execute the grant. The grant will be used to purchase Mobil Cellular Digital Package Data Radio system, Mobil Data Terminals for patrol vehicles and computer/computer technology upgrades. The Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program contemplates an interlocal agreement with Yakima County, whereby Yakima County has agreed to accept 516,124 (less applicable matching funds) from the City's grant thus retaining 591,370 for the City's use.
