R-2001- 118 A RESOLUTION declaring three used police cars to be surplus and authorizing sale of the cars to the City of Moxee Police Department. WHEREAS, the City of Yakima owns one used 1996 Crown Victoria and two used 1998 Crown Victorias in the Equipment Rental and Replacement Division, equipment numbers 1262, 1308, and 1312, for which the City has no immediate or foreseeable use and which are surplus to the needs of the City; and WHEREAS, City of Moxee Police Department has offered five thousand five hundred ($5,500) dollars for said used police cars; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it would be in the best interest of the City to sell these police cars forthwith rather than sell them at a public auction of City surplus equipment at a later date, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Council hereby declares the aforementioned 1996 and 1998 Crown Victoria police cars to be surplus to the needs of the City of Yakima, and the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to sell said 1996 and 1998 Crown Victoria police cars to the Moxee Police Department for five thousand five hundred ($5,500) dollars plus sales tax. If this is true, I am interested in purchasing a vehicle from you. I would greatly appreciate notification from you when such time arrives. As you know, we are a small police agency and have limited funding for patrol vehicle purchases. In the wake in I-695, our budget took a sub t. nsequently we are forced to purchase used vehicles. SUBMITTED BY: Chief Blesio, Police Department CONTACT PERSON/TELEPHONE: Chief Blesio - 575-6211 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The Police Department currently has several used police vehicles in the Equipment Rental and Replacement Division, which is in excess of the City's needs. These cars are to be sold at auction this fall. The City of Moxee Police Department is requesting to purchase three of these surplus vehicles for the total sum of $6,000. The vehicles in question are Equipment #1262, a 1996 Crown Victoria; Equipment #1308, a 1998 Crown Victoria; and Equipment #1312, a 1998 Crown Victoria. The total price of $5,500 is reasonable for these surplus police vehicles with high mileage. Staff is requesting the City Council dec;are these units as surplus to our needs and authorize the sale of these vehicles to the Moxee Police Department for $5,500 plus sales tax of $434.50 totaling $5,934.50.
