WHEREAS, the City of Yakima is a recipient of federal Community Development Block Grant funds which may be used, among other things, to provide economic development; and 11 illeir •111111 11111•1!• 1`1111111P WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the City to authorize and approve the $3000 grant request from the Workforce Development Council to assist in the costs of the Job Fair, now, therefore, 1. A grant of $3000 in CDBG funds to the Workforce Development Council for the purpose of assisting with the costs of holding the Job Fair at the Convention Center on April 3, 2001 is hereby authorized and approved, 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to execute all necessary grant documents, including a grant agreement, between the City of Yakima and the Workforce Development Council. We have provided this assistance for the Job Fair each of the last two years. The Fair serves dozens of employers and hundreds of potential clients. It is an excellent investment of CDBG Economic Development funds. This year's budget for economic development activities is $276,500. ($140,000 is already committed to Client Logic.) This proposal was discussed at a meeting of the City Council's Neighborhood Development Subcommittee on March 16, 2001 and is being forwarded to Council with a recommendation to approve this grant proposal.
