Re: Claimant: Barbara Toney Whitcher and Dennis Whitcher
Claim #: CTY20086
Date of Loss: 11/08/00
Dear Ms. Harvey:
Please find enclosed the salvage bids for the claimant's 1998 Mercury Mountaineer. As you
know, we paid for the damaged vehicle and took possession of the salvage on December 21,
2000. The high salvage bid was provided by Craig McBride at Northwest Auto Body in the
amount of $4,200.00. All but Pasco Auto Wrecking went out and looked at the vehicle. After
inspecting the vehicle, Milo's Body Shop declined to provide a salvage bid.
We believe that the bid at $4,200.00, or 18% of the actual cash value is a fair value for the
salvage. We recommend that this bid be accepted. Further outside storage could diminish the
value of the vehicle.
Once a bid has been accepted, the salvage will be sold to the buyer. The title will then be sent to
the State of Washington Department of Licensing to notify them that the vehicle is considered a
total loss. A bill of sale will be issued to the buyer. If in fact the vehicle is to be rebuilt, it will
have to be reinspected by the Washington State Patrol and issued a new title stamped, "rebuilt" by
the Department of Licensing.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
On November 8, 2000, a City of Yakima employee was in a two -vehicle accident. On
November 16, 2000, the owners of the other vehicle that was hit filed a damage claim
with the City of Yakima, relating to the accident and to the damage to their vehicle, a
1998 Mercury Mountaineer. The 1998 Mercury was damaged in the accident and not
drivable. On December 20, 2000, the City of Yakima paid the claimants for the vehicle,
and on December 21, 2000, took possession of the salvage. The City of Yakima has no
need for the damaged vehicle. Northwest Auto Body has offered the City of Yakima
$4,200.00 for the damaged 1998 Mercury Mountaineer. This amount has been
recommended by Craig Nance of Zaremba Claims Service as a reasonable price. Funds
realized from this money would be credited to the Risk Management Reserve Fund.
