R-2000 - 157 A RESOLUTION authorizing and directing the City Manager and City Clerk of the City of Yakima to execute a Professional Services Agreement with Wardell Architects P.S. for Professional Services on expansion of the Yakima Convention Center in the City of Yakima, City Project 1909. WHEREAS, the City of Yakima desires to proceed with the expansion of the Yakima Convention Center project, and WHEREAS, the Yakima City Council deems it to be in the best interest of the city that the attached document, be executed by the City of Yakima, accordingly, now therefore. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Manager and City Clerk of the City of Yakima are hereby authorized and directed to execute Professional Services Agreement with Wardell Architects P.S. in Yakima for the purpose mentioned above, a copy of which Agreement is attached hereto and by reference made a part hereof. November 21, 2000 Richard Zais, City Manager City of Yakima 129 North 2nd Street Yakima, WA 98901 Re Yakima Convention Center Expansion Project No. 1101 00 Dear Mr Zais WI We appreciate the opportunity to provide the following proposal for professional services to develop scope and expansion alternatives for the Yakima Convention Center We will work closely with representatives of the City and the Convention Center to identify needs and develop solutions The general intent of this Preliminary Program and Concept Definition phase is to prepare an outline of program spaces that describe minimum to optimum additions to the Center and then to prepare design options that illustrate such additions as influenced by site area available and the budget cost of each This work will build on the information developed in the Jinneman, Kennedy and Associates Market/Financial Analysis report of October 27, 2000 and will include concurrent consideration of options for program and options for design concepts Each of these areas of consideration will consist of. o Assembly and analysis of existing conditions and information o Acquisition and evaluation of input of stakeholders o Development of concept options o Preparation of preliminary cost information o Documentation of conclusions in written and graphic form The attached work plan and schedule is a part of this scope of services and illustrates the sequence, duration and major milestones in the performance of the work. SUMMARY EXPLANATION: CED respectfully requests City Council approval of a Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute the attached Professional Services Contract with Wardell Architects, P.S., for conceptual design of the Yakima Convention Center Expansion. Once the conceptual portion of the project is completed, a Public Facilities District (PFD) may be created to finance the expansion project. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: COUNCIL ACTION: Resolution adopted. Resolution No. R-2000-157. The time to complete this work will be approximately 8 weeks. The following work will be completed and submitted to Council for review to assist Council in making a final decision early next year. 'r A C.
