(509) 452-0578 This letter is a request that the City of Yakima review and grant approval for the proposed removal of three maple trees within the public right-of-way on North Fourth Street, fronting the new construction planned for the St. Joseph Church. Traho Architects, P.S. is the primary architect for the V. K. Powell Design -Build Team working on this project; the schedule of work includes the start of demolition in September 2000, with construction completion late Fall 2001. Design is now in progress and will soon reach the point where the revised site can be fully illustrated. Our site will incorporate new trees in the public right-of-way as well as within the adjacent Church property along North Fourth Street and a raised planter running the length of the Lincoln Avenue side of the new Church. We propose to provide at least six new trees along North Fourth Street, and will select them from the Yakima Friendly Street Trees and/or Recommended Trees Lists (copy enclosed). A reduced scale drawing is enclosed which locates the new Church and the three trees which we propose to remove. Detailed site plan information will, be available later this fall, when drawings are submitted for plan review. Taking into account the projects fast-track schedule, we wish to proceed with demolition prior to completion of these drawings, hence the purpose of this request. Please advise as to what additional information you may require. We will appreciate your prompt response so that this request may get on the City Council's calendar as soon as practicable.
