SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
Airshow Yakima requests temporary street closures that are required to meet FAA safety
requirements. The City Council has authorized street closure for this event on August 8, 2000
from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and on August 9, 2000 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Following the
City Council meeting of July 18, 2000, the Airshow Board learned that an additional time
would be needed on August 9 due to incoming commercial flights. They are respectfully
requesting that the City Council grant the additional time.
Areas to be closed or otherwise effected will include:
Spring Creek Road and 16th Avenue from Washington Avenue to Ahtanum Road will be
closed to all traffic with the exception of emergency vehicles and limited individuals with
passes from Airshow Yakima.
Ahtanum Road from 3rd Avenue to 52nd Avenue will be limited to "local traffic only".
Ahtanum Road will be closed to all traffic from approximately 550 feet west of the
intersection of 16th Avenue to a point approximately 1750 feet east of 16th Avenue.
West Washington Avenue will be closed to all traffic from 40th Avenue to 48th Avenue.
The FAA has requested the County to close the portions of lower Ahtanum Road that are
outside the Yakima City Limits for this event as well.
These time frames are required by the Federal Aviation Administration in order for the
Snowbirds to perform their show. These requirements are necessary due to the maneuvers
which the Snowbirds will be conducting.
