For Meeting of: December 6, 2016 ITEM TITLE: Ordinance increasing the Bid Limit to $50,000 on the purchase of Supplies, Material, Equipment and Services SUBMITTED BY: Sue Ownby, City/County Procurement Manager SUMMARY EXPLANATION: It is requested Yakima City Council pass the attached ordinance to increase the city's formal, sealed bid limit for supplies, material, equipment and services to $50,000. The current bid limit has been $25,000 since 1990. City Charter ARTICLE VI, SECTION 6 allows for the monetary increase by ordinance enacted by the vote of no less than a two-thirds majority of the City Council members. Increasing the bid limit to $50,000 will align with Yakima County's newly established bid limit of $50,000, which was approved by the Legislature under House Bill 2427 and is currently in the process of being adopted by the Yakima County Board of Commissioners. Having the same bid limit in both the city and the county will streamline the procurement process for the purchasing department and provide for consistency in solicitations.
