Currently, the two trees in question do not meet the criteria of dead, dying or diseased, but the roots are causing serious uplifting of the adjacent sidewalk. The City Arborist examined the trees to determine if roots could be removed in an effort to save the trees and eliminate future sidewalk damage. He determined that it would weaken the trees significantly and pose future safety hazards. The homeowner has been working with Community Development to assist with removal to the trees and replacement of the sidewalk. The proposed removal of trees qualifies through the Neighborhood Sidewalk Improvement Program and the Street Division, through the 50-50 Sidewalk Replacement Program, which will assist the homeowner with replacement of the sidewalk.
