ITEM TITLE: Council Nominating Committee recommendations regarding
appointments to boards, commissions, and committees
SUBMITTED BY: Reedy Berg, Chair
SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Council Nominating Committee met on June 9, 2025 and made the following recommendations for
appointments and reappointments:
• Public Facilities District Board - reappoint Ryan Beckett and appoint W. Sheldon Butler
• Henry Beauchamp Jr. Community Center Advisory Committee - reappoint James Parks
• Historic Preservation Commission - reappoint Paul Edmondson and Cynthia Hall
• Parks and Recreation Commission - reappoint Rod Bryant and appoint Bruce Whitmore
• Tree City USA Board - reappoint Jheri Ketcham (Yakima Arboretum representative) and appoint
Jacob Nowlin
ITEM BUDGETED:
STRATEGIC PRIORITY 24-25: An Engaged Yakima
RECOMMENDATION: Approve recommendations.

COUNCIL NOMINATING COMMITTEE MINUTES
City Manager's Conference Room
Monday June 9, 2025
The meeting convened at 4:00 p.m.
Council present: Reedy Berg, Rick Glenn, and Leo Roy
Staff present: City Clerk Rosalinda Ibarra and Finance Director Craig Warner
Reedy Berg was selected as Chair of this meeting.
1. Applicant Interviews —the Council Nominating Committee members interviewed the
following applicants for the Public Facilities District Board:
• David Heinl
• Ryan Beckett
• W. Sheldon Butler
After conducting interviews and reviewing applications,
MOTION: Glenn moved and Roy seconded to recommend Ryan Beckett and W.
Sheldon Butler to the Public Facilities District Board. The motion carried unanimously.
The Council Nominating Committee further reviewed applications and made the
following recommendations:
MOTION: Berg moved and Glenn seconded to recommend James Parks for
reappointment to the Henry Beauchamp Jr. Community Advisory Committee.
The motion carried unanimously.
MOTION: Berg moved and Roy seconded to recommend Paul Edmondson and
Cynthia Hall for reappointment to the Historic Preservation Commission. The
motion carried unanimously.
MOTION: Berg moved and Roy seconded to recommend Rod Bryant for
reappointment to the Parks and Recreation Commission. The motion carried
unanimously.
MOTION: Berg moved and Roy seconded to recommend Bruce Whitmore to the
Parks and Recreation Commission. The motion carried unanimously.
MOTION: Glenn moved and Roy seconded to recommend Jheri Ketcham for
reappointment to the Tree City USA Board as the Yakima Arboretum
representative. The motion carried unanimously.
MOTION: Berg moved and Glenn seconded to recommend Jacob Nowlin to the
Tree City USA Board. The motion carried unanimously.
2. The meeting was adjourned at 4:59 p.m.
