Adjourn Next Meeting: June 25, 2025 - 1 - 05/28/2025 YPC Minutes City of Yakima Planning Commission (YPC) Meeting Minutes May 28, 2025 Call to Order Chair Place called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. Roll Call YPC Members Present: Chair Mary Place, Vice-Chair Anne Knapp, Charles Hitchcock, Colleda Monick, Kevin Rangel, Leanne Hughes-Mickel, Philip Ostriem, Arthur Salido, Shelley White YPC Members Absent: Frieda Stephens, Jeff Baker (both excused) Staff Present: Bill Preston; Community Development Director, Trevor Martin; Planning Manager, Eva Rivera; Planning Technician City Council Liaison: Staff Announcements – No announcements. Chair Place reviewed an email from Frank Purdy about the process for obtaining reports from subcommittees. After discussion, the commission decided that they want representatives from the subcommittees to attend meetings and provide reports. Communication to City Council will be via a written report. Approval of Minutes from May 14, 2025 - It was motioned by Commissioner Knapp and seconded by Commissioner Hughes-Mickel to approve the meeting minutes of May 14, 2025. The motion carried unanimously. Public Comment – None Reviewing Housing Changes Presentation - Martin presented a PowerPoint presentation highlighting past housing changes the commission had worked on. Other Business - Community Development Director, Bill Preston introduced himself to the commission. Commissioner White read aloud the statement she had previously presented to the City Council. Meeting Recap – Action Items & Decisions: • Chair Place will attend upcoming meetings of the subcommittees to explain how information will be shared with the Planning Commission. It was decided that updates or important information from the commission or its subcommittees will be communicated to City Council via a written report. • Trevor will send out today’s PowerPoint presentation via email • The action item from the May 14 meeting regarding the Housing Action Plan remains pending. - 2 - 05/28/2025 YPC Minutes Outstanding Action Items • An orientation or educational item summarizing past Planning Commission actions related to the Housing Action Plan will be developed. It will be a standalone item and is anticipated to be presented within the next couple of meetings, but not at the next agenda. • Staff will provide upcoming dates for the next community division/workshops, tentatively scheduled for August and November. A motion to adjourn to June 11, 2025, was passed with a unanimous vote. The meeting adjourned at approximately 3:28 p.m. Chair Place Date This meeting was filmed by YPAC.
