ITEM TITLE: Older Americans Month proclamation

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
At the May 20 City Council meeting, Council member Deccio requested that an older Americans
proclamation be added to the June 3 agenda. The motion passed unanimously. Attached for Council
consideration is the proclamation. If approved, the proclamation will be read and presented to Kathy
Medford.

'LEAS, May is older Americans month, a time for us to recognize and honor the
City of Yakima older adults and their immense influence on every facet ofAmerican society; and
WILE AS, through their wealth of life experience and wisdom, older adults guide our
younger generations and carry forward abundant cultural and historical knowledge; and
WieEKMS, older_Americans improve our communities through intergenerational
relationships, community service, civic engagement, and many other activities; and
WOEKTAS, communities benefit when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds
have the opportunity to participate and live independently; and
` ?JIE 1S, the City of Yakima must ensure that older_Americans have the resources
and support needed to stay involved in their communities—reflecting our commitment to
inclusivity and connectedness.
