0 AN ORDINANCE amending Sections 27, 85, and 102 of Ordinance No
B-2137, entitled, "AN ORDINANCE relating to and regu-
lating plumbing; including provisions relating to the
water supply and drainage in plumbing systems; creating
an examining board for plumbers; defining eertvin terms;
establishing regulations for the installation, alt e a-
tion, or repair of plumbing and drainage system; and the
inspection thereof; requiring licenses and, permite; pre-
scribing fees; providing pen=lties for its violation;
• and repealing co flicting ordinances," and declaring =n
emergency,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. That Section 27 of Ordinance Na, Be2137 shall be
amended by adding thereto a new sub-section (c) which shall read as
follows:
"Sction 27. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MATERIALS,
(c) Copper tube for underground drainage and vent piping
shall have a weight of not lees than that of Copper Water
Tube, Type L, A.S.T.M. B-88-58,
0 Copper tube for above ground drainage and vent piping
shall have a weight of not less than that of Copper Drainage
Tube Type DWV A.S.T.M. B-306-58."
Section 2 That Section 85 of Ordinance No B-2I-37 is hereby
amended to read as follows, to-wit:
"Section 85. SIZES OF SOIL AND WASTE PIPE. The maximum number
of fixture units that may be connected to a given size of hori
zontal branch, building drain, vertical soil or waste stack or
building sewer is set forth below. In no case shall the waete
pipe be smaller than the trap it serves. No horizontal waete
pipe of 116 inches shall exceed 25 feet in length, Maximum fix-
ture units that may be connected to building drain, moil or
waste pipes are as follows:

Water closets shall not be connected to soil pipes less than
-410 four (4) inches in diameter. Water closets may be connected to
copper tube soil pipes of three (3) inches in diameter.
When provision is made for the future installation of fixtures,
those provided for shall be considered in determining the re-
quired size of drain pipes. Construction to provide for such
future installation shall be terminated with a plugged fitting„
or fittings, at the stack, so as to form no dead end, and shall
be provided with a vent opening."
Seetion3 That Section 102 of Ordinance No B-21-37 is hereby
amended to read as follows, to-wit:
"Section 102. SIZE AND LENGTH OF VENTS. Size of all vents
extending through the roof must be at least equal in cross-
sectional area of the main house drain to which they connect.
All main lines of soil and waste pipes shall be extended full
size through the roof. The main vent pipe in buildings where
water closets or eight unit drains are installed shall be at
least four inches in diameter, except where copper tube is
used, in which case the pipe shall not be less than 3 inches
in diameter, and in either case shall be extended full size
through the roof. All vents shall be at least one and one
fourth inches in diameter,
1 10 In determining the developed length of vent pipes, the vent
stack and branches shall be considered continuous from the
longest vent connection; provided, that the minimum size of
individual vents shall not be less than:

The required size and length of vents shall be determined

• Section 4. This ordinance is one to provide for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, property, health and safety of the
people of the City of Yakima n and an emergency is hereby declared to
exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately
upon its passage n approval and publication as provided by law and the
City Charter.
