ITEM TITLE: National Salvation Army Week proclamation

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
At the May 6 Council meeting, Councilmember Glenn motioned to approve a National Salvation Army
Week proclamation which was approved by consensus. Attached is the proclamation that will be read
and presented to Lisa Sargent.

BEES, The Salvation Army (Yakima Valley Corps has served the community
since 1894, and is one of the most trusted non-profit organizations in America today; and
ZV.tfER,EAS, The Salvation Army (Yakima valley Corps exists to meet human need
wherever, whenever, and however we can; and
(WI-PERMS, The Salvation Army (Yakima valley Corps provides an after-school
program, youth scout program, summer camps, gifts c food provided at Christmas, dairy food
pantry throughout the year, clothing c household needs, and we are dedicated to combatting
intergenerational poverty through an Initiative, Pathway of./lope; and
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army, an international-movement, is an Evangelical part
of the universal-Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated
6y the Cove of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel-of Christ and to meet human needs
in His name without discrimination; and
(WI-PERMS, during National Salvation Army week we encourage our community to
ask questions and get to know The Salvation Army more and we say thank you to those who
contribute to The Salvation Army's mission, whether through volunteer time, money, or in-
kind donation.
NOW, TifEREEORE, I, Patricia Byers Mayor of the City of(Yakima and on behalf
of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the week,of May 12 - 18, 2025 as
"National Safvation Array Week'
in (Yakima and urge all residents to join me in honoring the dedicated employees, volunteers and
donors of The Salvation Army who faithfully touch so many lives in our community.
