ITEM TITLE: Council Nominating Committee recommendations regarding
appointments to boards, commissions, and committees
SUBMITTED BY: Danny Herrera, Chair
SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Council Nominating Committee met on April 29, 2025 and made the following recommendations for
appointments:
• Arts Commission - appoint Reesha Cosby (Capitol Theatre representative); Geri O. Ham (Larson
Gallery representative); Sylvia Merczel and Jacob Butler (Community representatives)
• Parks and Recreation Commission - appoint Kenneth Wyatt Garcia (youth position)
• Yakima Housing Authority - appoint Eliza Mancilla
ITEM BUDGETED:
STRATEGIC PRIORITY 24-25: An Engaged Yakima
RECOMMENDATION: Approve recommendations.

COUNCIL NOMINATING COMMITTEE MINUTES
City Manager's Conference Room
Tuesday April 29, 2025
The meeting convened at 4:32 p.m.
Council present: Danny Herrera and Leo Roy (present via phone)
Staff present: City Clerk Rosalinda Ibarra
Danny Herrera was selected as Chair of this meeting.
1. Review applications—the Council Nominating Committee members reviewed
applications and made the following recommendations:
MOTION: Herrera moved and Roy seconded to recommend Reesha Cosby to
the Arts Commission as the Capitol Theatre representative. The motion carried
unanimously.
MOTION: Herrera moved and Roy seconded to recommend Geri O. Ham to the
Arts Commission as the Larson Gallery representative. The motion carried
unanimously.
MOTION: Herrera moved and Roy seconded to recommend Sylvia Merczel and
Jacob Butler to the Arts Commission as Community representatives. The motion
carried unanimously.
MOTION: Herrera moved and Roy seconded to recommend Kenneth Wyatt
Garcia to the Parks and Recreation Commission in the youth position. The
motion carried unanimously.
MOTION: Herrera moved and Roy seconded to recommend Eliza Mancilla to the
Yakima Housing Authority Board. The motion carried unanimously.
2. The meeting was adjourned at 4:48 p.m.
