For Meeting of: April 15, 2025 ITEM TITLE: 2024 Clean City Annual Report (General Fund) SUBMITTED BY: Scott Schafer, Public Works Director SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The Clean City Program was established as a quick response unit to address blight within the City of Yakima. Under the direction of Public Works, Clean City is a coordinated interdepartmental effort primarily involving Public Works, Codes, Legal and Police. The primary objectives of the Clean City program are to: • Address visual blight (trash, graffiti, dangerous buildings, abandoned vehicles, etc.) • Perform necessary and unscheduled collection of waste and litter from the City's public rights-of- way • Expediate the clean-up of such illegal dumps • Clean up homeless encampments • Support Yakima Police Department officers in unlawful camping enforcement • Provide coordination with neighborhoods for annual clean-up events • Create educational materials • Engage with community partners and volunteers Below is a summary of accomplishments for 2024: Graffiti Incidents Abated '4163 Shopping Carts 675 Removed Homeless Individuals 5880 Contacted Homeless Encampments 105 Cleaned 134 Illegal Dump Sites 2236 Cleaned Garbage Removed 136.9 (Tons) Tires Removed 725 Pressured-Washed 34 Areas Inoperable Vehicles 1 Dangerous Buildings 13 Attached in greater detail for City Council review is the 2024 Annual Clean City Report.
